Ten First Lesson Day Class Rules Routines for Bonding & Getting to know your class in the new term

Ten simple routines for a well ordered classroom. Give your new class a chance to come up with some class rules to agree to. Alternatively use these ten and then just tweak them a little. Then print out the agreed rules on a poster and get them all to sign up to them. Then refer them back to this in the future as necessary. 101 ideas strategies fun positive behaviour lesson planning for new and improving teachers

Over a hundred ideas for lessons. Wrote this a couple of years ago and then updated this week after two years of working in a Requires Improvement school where I've had a lot of feedback and so had lots of improvements. Most of the ideas are innovations of other peoples ideas but I've always tried to put an element of fun into the lessons. I am sure that you will find at least ten of these which you will like which you haven't seen before or thought of before and you will want to try out. Not all ideas will work for you and either way they need to fit in with your school ethos and the current trends in your school. However there is loads in here to think about. Lots of these ideas have further detail as a separate TES resources listed in my TES shop. If you download this I would very much welcome it if you could write a review. Divide your wall space into different sections and label each section with the "Poster Headings". This is my brain reflection plenary or starter recall activity Magenta Principles

This is just a picture of a brain on A4. You write the topic title or the question on the left and then print out. (You could duplicate the page and then print both onto A4 so each is A5). Each student then fills it with what they know. e.g. **At the start of a lesson to recall everything they remember from yesterday, etc. **During the lesson to summarize or capture all the key information from e.g. a presentation or fact sheet. **At the end of the lesson to recap everything they've learnt. I've edited the picture of the brain to make it easier to write on with less bits to fill in. The student's can order their writing around the brain in any order they choose. It's not my idea and I've not use it yet so interested in any feedback. If you like this and find it useful then please leave positive feedback and do check out my shop which includes many premium resources which may help save you time and give you ideas. Cheers

Successful Silence 5 minute Quiet Time Lesson Strategy Positive Behaviour Idea Lesson Study

Simple idea....Make sure the student have everything they need to do the work. Make sure you have prepped them and given them opportunities to discuss it and ask questions. Check everyone understands what to do and how to do it. Then give them the task and insist on five minutes of "Successful silence". During this time they are absolutely not allowed to talk - even the students with TA's. That way they are given the chance to work quietly. This is something the students have said they want - quiet time to work in. This was done as a "Action Research Lesson Study" with the North East Teacher Development Trust Network. Every week it's good to nominate a student of the week. It makes sense to tell your class what you consider to be positive behaviours which will help them to get nominated. This poster lists lots of positives. It's in MS Publisher. Change the border art to your school logo and place a larger copy of your school logo in the top corner. Magenta Principles Connect Linking Mastery Domino Activity Plenary Starter Reflection Understanding

This is a really simple idea. Give out to each student a grid. The grid contains 3 rows of two. They then write six facts or points about a topic in the six boxes. Then they cut out the boxes (but only cut on the dotted lines) so that they create THREE domino cards. Each of the three domino cards now has two facts - one on either side of the bold line. The student now arranges the three dominoes in to a line (or even a triangle) and then annotates the link or connection between the two facts either side of the connection. E.g. They have written down six facts about angles: **4 angles in a square **angles on a straight line add up to 180 degrees **angles are measured in degrees ** right angles are 90 degrees **360 degrees in a full circle **triangle angles add up to 180 degrees You can see that if they place the fact '4 angles in a square' next to '360 degrees in a full circle' they can annotate the link by saying that 4 x 90 degrees is 360 degrees. You will notice that in the file I have produced tables with 3, 4, 5 and 6 dominoes in. I will give the more able students the greater challenge of having to first recall more facts and then make more links. My colleague has used this successfully however she wrote some facts on some of the dominoes first to get some students started. I'm thinking now that I may first use this activity by making up a set of cards for the class to see how to do it first in their groups. I've just made this ready for a History lesson on Victorian Factory conditions and you will see this in the files as well. It's not my idea and I've not use it yet so I'm interested in any feedback. If you like this and find it useful then please leave positive feedback and do check out my shop which includes many premium resources which may help save you time and give you ideas. Cheers
Mathematics Student Pupil Exercise Work Book Presentation Layout Guidelines Poster

Mathematics Student Pupil Exercise Work Book Presentation Layout Guidelines Poster

A list of points to reinforce with your students to improve the presentation in their Mathematics exercise books. If students know what working is needed and why it is important to show it in their exercise books, they are more willing to show the necessary working. If students know what the expectations are in terms of presentation, layout and attention to detail, they are more likely to take a pride in their exercise books. This is based on posters and book labels seen in several schools. I have amended to fit my learners and I've uploaded it as a MS Word file so that you can tailor it for your learners. Timer Clock Face Question Lesson Speed Increase Pace Activity Template Revision Planner

(0)
This is a series of templates for using to promote pace in lessons when students are working independently (or perhaps in pairs). Most exam questions are roughly 1 mark per minute so students need to increase their pace if they are to complete their papers. The idea is that you give them a set amount of time to do each question and then through out you give them reminders of the time elapsed. The template encourages them to work against the clock to complete the questions and so up their pace. If you see the MS Publisher file for the example which is four questions to be completed in eight minutes. The MS PowerPoint contains SEVEN templates which you can print out and use. Simply hand write the questions around the clock face and then write on the number of minutes for each one. There are two pages of usage notes included on the PowerPoint to help you implement the resource in your lessons. It's a great idea which I saw on TES resources (MrsMorgan1) and so thank you to her for sharing. I've adapted it for my learners. This is what my colleague said "My class really took to it and I was pleased with how eager they were to finish" If you like this then check out my many other activities listed on my TES Resources Shop (Stewsterthebear) which includes many free and Premium resources which will save you lots of time and give you some useful ideas. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Stewsterthebear If you find this resource useful then please do leave a constructive review so that others can benefit from your experience. Todays Lesson Starter Activity Bell Task Poster Display Settling Resource

This has been really useful this - especially with a class who have a lot of students arriving late. I decide on my starter activity and take a "Snip" of it using the Windows Snipping Tool and then copy and paste the "Capture" onto this PowerPoint. Then as the students arrive give them them a copy of the starter as you greet them and have this PowerPoint showing on the presentation screen as a reminder. Once you've used a few times the students soon learn and follow the routine. Make the task long enough that no one finishes before the last person arrives and make sure it easy enough that they can all make a start on it. see my other resources on Ski Route Differentiation. This set of posters has been printed on to Green, Blue, red and White card and then laminated (as A4). The laminates have been placed on one of the notice boards and next to are poly pockets attached. Each lesson I can go and drop the four different ability tasks (as worksheets) into the poly pockets and then the students can choose the task they want to do.
